• The Discovery Barn is the cornerstone of the Zoo's commitment to more activities aimed at young children and families. Discovery Barn, an enclosed, air conditioned kids' fun center will bring children and families in close contact with exotic animals like ring-tailed lemurs, meerkats, macaws, squirrel monkeys and more! The barn will provide interactive learning and fun - particularly on its new two-story slide. (Scheduled to open Memorial Day)



• The Peekaboo Tree, an all-new feature for young children, will be built adjacent to the barn. The tree will provide children with safe and fun opportunities to climb, laugh and play like animals in the wild. (Scheduled to open Memorial Day)



• Two Sumatran tigers will join the Zoo's animal collection this spring, marking the full-time return of tigers to Kansas City. (Scheduled to go on exhibit in April)



• Several other new animals will be on exhibit this year including baby kangaroos ("joeys"), baboons, a male zebra, four lion cubs (born July 2005) and much more!



• The Promenade, an all-new main street that will shorten the distance for visitors to walk from the main entrance to the elephant watering hole at the entrance to the Zoo's heralded Africa exhibit. The new wide, straight pathway will reduce the walk from 20 to 7 minutes.
